Shakira has voiced her opinion on illegal downloading, insisting that it brings her closer to her fans. The Shakira music videos are among the most watched online at the moment.
Despite artists such as Lily Allen recently opposing those who download music illegally, the Colombian singer said that she has a more positive view of the issue.
“I like what’s going on because I feel closer to the fans and the people who appreciate the music,” she told Sky News. “It’s the democratisation of music in a way.
“And music is a gift. That’s what it should be, a gift.”

With millions of dollars in the bank from record sales, Shakira can afford to be relaxed about her income.
Last month, Lily was forced to shut down her blog after she was subjected to abuse over her firm stance over file-sharing.
She wrote a piece on her MySpace page revealing her astonishment at Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason and Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien supporting illegal file-sharers.
