Virgin Accelerates To 7.2 Mbps on its Mobile Broadband

Posted by admin in Uncategorized

Virgin Media has recently announced that it has completed upgrading its mobile broadband network to 7.2 Mbps.

In the UK market, Virgin is the second service provider after Vodafone to offer the speed of 7.2 Mbps, while the others – O2, Orange and 3 – offer theoretical speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps only. The move now puts Virgin up in direct competition with front-runner company Vodafone. Subscribers can access the new speeds with a new 7.2 Mbps dongle that the company is offering on a rolling one-month plan or an 18-month plan, with download limits of 1GB and 3 GB per month.

Virgin claims that the new dongle will enable subscribers to access iPlayer and YouTube videos and keep up with their favourite shows and programs as well as watch video clips, though the actual speeds may vary. 7.2 Mbps is the theoretical speed of the network; actual speeds will depend on a number of factors not within the control of the subscriber. So not every user will be able to get super fast internet experience.

However, Virgin Media is highly optimistic about the success of its new and faster network. Graeme Oxby, executive director of mobile for Virgin UK, said that for subscribers outside home or on the move, mobile broadband network represents the best way of staying connected. Oxby added that the company is happy to be able to make mobile broadband experience a smoother and easier one for subscribers.
